BHUTAN
BHUTAN THROUGH THE SEASONS
Every season reveals a different side of Bhutan. From the blossoms of spring to the golden landscapes of autumn, each journey is shaped by nature's changing rhythm. Whether you seek crisp mountain views, vibrant festivals, or quiet winter retreats, Bhutan offers something exceptional throughout the year.
SPRING
March – May
Average temperatures: 10–24°C
Spring is one of Bhutan's most celebrated seasons. Valleys come alive with rhododendrons, jacaranda blossoms, and lush greenery, while clear skies provide spectacular views of the Himalayas. Pleasant daytime temperatures make this an ideal season for sightseeing, cultural experiences, and gentle hikes. Lightweight clothing is comfortable during the day, though a light jacket or sweater is recommended for cooler mornings and evenings.
SUMMER
June – August
Average temperatures: 17–27°C
Summer transforms Bhutan into a landscape of vibrant forests, emerald rice terraces, and dramatic mountain mist. Occasional afternoon showers refresh the valleys, creating a peaceful atmosphere and fewer visitors at many of the country's iconic sites. Lightweight, breathable clothing is ideal, together with a light waterproof jacket and comfortable walking shoes for exploring in changing weather.
AUTUMN
September – November
Average temperatures: 8–23°C
Autumn is renowned for its crisp mountain air, brilliant blue skies, and exceptional visibility of Bhutan's highest peaks. The countryside glows with golden colours as harvest season begins, and many of Bhutan's most important cultural festivals take place during these months. Comfortable layers are recommended, with light clothing during the day and a warm jacket for the cooler evenings.
WINTER
December – February
Average temperatures: -2 – +15°C
Winter offers a quieter and more intimate side of Bhutan. Sunny days, snow-capped mountains, and fewer travellers create a peaceful atmosphere perfect for those seeking privacy and tranquillity. While lower valleys remain comfortable throughout the day, mornings and evenings can be cold, particularly at higher elevations. Warm layers, a quality coat, gloves, and a scarf are recommended, making this season ideal for cosy luxury lodges, wellness retreats, and uninterrupted moments together.
